Jay-Z is officially headlining the Apple Music Super Bowl Halftime Show in 2027, closing a loop that started with Roc Nation producing the show for other artists and ends with Jay-Z stepping onto the stage himself.
A moment Jay-Z calls a dream come true
'From Reasonable Doubt to standing on the Super Bowl Halftime stage, this has been a journey,' Jay-Z said in a statement announcing the news. 'Thirty years of music, work, and culture on the world's biggest stage. This run continues to be a dream come true.' NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell framed the booking as the fulfillment of a long-standing request made when the league first partnered with Roc Nation to produce the halftime show. 'When we first reached an agreement with Roc Nation to produce the show, I had just one request: that Jay-Z take the stage himself one day, whenever the moment felt right to him,' Goodell said.
The basics
Super Bowl LXI takes place at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, airing February 14, 2027 on ESPN, with a simulcast on ABC and streaming on Disney+ and the ESPN app. Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m. ET, with the halftime show typically running between 8:00 and 8:30 p.m. ET depending on game pacing. Jay-Z's set is expected to run 12 to 15 minutes, in line with Bad Bunny's roughly 14 minute slot in 2026.
Who might join him onstage
With three decades of collaborators to pull from, Jay-Z has no shortage of potential guests, though none have been confirmed. The most obvious candidate is his wife, Beyonce, given joint hits like 'Crazy in Love,' '03 Bonnie and Clyde,' 'Drunk in Love,' and 'Apeshit,' on top of their 2018 joint album as The Carters. Their daughter Blue Ivy is technically already on record with him too, credited on 'Glory' as a newborn, and more recently joined him onstage to play piano during 'The Story of O.J.' and 'Dead Presidents' at his October 25 SoFi Stadium concert.
Other long shot possibilities include Rihanna, who has worked with Jay-Z on 'Umbrella,' 'Run This Town,' and 'Talk That Talk,' and Alicia Keys, whose sole collaboration with him, 'Empire State of Mind,' spent five weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100. DJ Khaled, a frequent collaborator on tracks like 'God Did' and 'I Got the Keys,' already appeared at the SoFi show, while Nas, once one of Jay-Z's most famous rivals before the two reconciled in 2005, performed at his 30th anniversary Reasonable Doubt concert at Yankee Stadium earlier this year.
