Miley Cyrus is starting a new era. More than a year after releasing Something Beautiful, she announced her tenth studio album, Bass Persuades, will arrive September 18. She shared the news in an Instagram post on September 1, having teased the project days earlier with a photo of herself in an animal free fur coat from Saint Laurent by Anthony Vaccarello, captioned simply with her first name. Around the same time she changed her Instagram handle to just Miley, dropping her last name entirely.
Where the title comes from
Cyrus explained the album's name in her announcement post, writing that music takes hold of people, gets felt and sung and danced to, and carries both power and vulnerability, sweetness and strength. She described the title as capturing that full range, heart full and heartache together, as the meaning behind Bass Persuades.
A love story with layers
In a July interview with Wonderland, Cyrus said the record includes love songs but insisted they are not one dimensional, describing the album as a love story shaped by where she currently is in life. She pointed to a romantic thread running through it, likely tied to her yearslong relationship with fiance Maxx Morando, but said the bigger evolution across her last three records has been in her relationship with herself, and that once that changes, every other relationship changes with it. She called the new album a record that celebrates both kinds of love equally.
