Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are relocating their family back to the United Kingdom, according to reporting from People and The Telegraph. The move follows a visit the couple made to the U.K. this past July, and it means a real shift in where Archie and Lilibet will grow up, at least for now.

A new home base

People reports the children will start school in Britain this September, with the family settling into what the outlet describes as a private, non-royal home base. The exact location of the new home and the school the kids will attend are both being kept quiet. The couple is not giving up their existing properties, either. Their house in Montecito, California stays, as does the vacation home in Portugal where they spent part of this summer.

How the rest of the family found out

The Telegraph reports that King Charles III learned of the move on Sunday, and that the topic did not come up during the family's visit earlier in the summer. According to the paper, Charles is glad for the chance to see more of his son and grandchildren regularly, in both a private and personal capacity, and has made clear that Meghan and Harry's standing as private individuals and non-working royals will not change, in line with what they have asked for previously. Kate Middleton and Prince William were also told about the move, though it is not clear when or through whom.

A limited return so far

Meghan and Harry left royal duties and relocated to the United States in 2020. Since then, the full family has returned to England only twice, once for Queen Elizabeth II's Platinum Jubilee in 2022, and again this summer.
