The Fast and the Furious turned 25 this week, and Jordana Brewster marked the occasion the way Mia Toretto never would have, in a sheer black lace gown instead of a tank top. The anniversary screening of the 2001 original brought Brewster back together with Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson and other members of the franchise's extended cast for a night in Los Angeles.
A different kind of premiere
Brewster told ELLE she attended the film's original Westwood premiere 25 years ago carrying her mother's Fendi bag and wearing makeup she had done herself, blue eyeshadow included. This time she walked the same carpet with her own children and left the makeup to a professional.
The look
Stylist Katie Bofshever put Brewster in an asymmetrical Monse gown built from delicate black lace, with a sheer skirt and a dramatic train, then finished the outfit with Nak Armstrong and Savannah Friedkin jewelry and a pair of strappy Paris Texas heels. Makeup artist Melanie Inglessis kept the blue eyeshadow retired for good, while hairstylist Renato Campora pulled her hair into a sleek, statement low ponytail.
What the franchise means to her
Brewster has played Mia for more than two decades and has watched the series grow from a scrappy street racing story into one of the biggest franchises in Hollywood. She pointed to Brazil, her home country, as one of the places the films resonate most, and called the role the thing that changed her life and set her career in motion. With another installment, Fast Forever, still to come, she is not done with the family yet.
