Vivienne and Knox Jolie turned 18 on July 12. They are the youngest of Angelina Jolie's six children, which means every one of them is now legally an adult, alongside Maddox at 24, Pax at 22, Zahara at 21 and Shiloh at 20.
That milestone is not sentimental for Jolie. It is procedural. It removes the thing that has kept her in California.
She told us this was coming
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter in August 2024, she said plainly that she was living in Los Angeles because the divorce required her to be, and that as soon as the children turned 18 she would be able to leave.
She was candid about why. With a large family you want privacy, peace and safety, she said, and while she had built a house to raise her children in, the city was not where she had found the version of humanity she valued. She named Cambodia as somewhere she expected to spend a lot of time.
What sources say now
A source who spoke to People describes the 51 year old as ready, and says she has been talking about leaving Los Angeles for years. She is happy, the insider said, to have more freedom and flexibility in her life, and is looking at a home outside California.
The same source frames it around the children rather than around escape. Jolie has wanted them to experience the world, and she is excited that they can now all do more of that together.
The context
Jolie shares the six children with Brad Pitt. The divorce was finalised in 2024 after twelve years together, and by the source's account the children have been her priority throughout.
Which makes the timing read less like a departure than like the end of an obligation she has been counting down for two years.
