In it, she and host Mariska Hargitay poked fun at the endless Easter eggs Swift is known for hiding in her work.
The line that set fans off
At one point in the sketch, Swift said, quote, I think what we're gonna be looking for is hiding in plain sight, saccharide Aries from the vineyard north or south, unquote. Within minutes, fans were picking the phrase apart. One Reddit theory tied hiding in plain sight to a line from her song Dear Reader, track 20 on her most recent album, and speculated an announcement could land October 20. Others pointed to Aries being the ram of the zodiac, noting the Chiefs play the Rams later this season, or to Aries being the first sign, another possible nod to Swift's self titled debut, which turns 20 on October 24 and which many fans believe may finally get its Taylor's Version treatment.
More clues fans think they found
Eagle eyed viewers also zeroed in on props in the background of the sketch, including a black and a blue guitar pick, with the blue one read as a nod to her debut album's visual identity, and a sticky note reading Is it TV, widely read as shorthand for Taylor's Version. A Hacks poster bearing the date April 9 sparked another theory, since that date falls in Aries season and its digits add up to 13, a number closely associated with Swift. One more fan connected saccharide to an unreleased track and read north or south as a reference to her birth state of Pennsylvania and her adopted home of Tennessee. Swift has not confirmed any of it, but fans may not wait long for more clues, since she is nominated for nine awards at the MTV VMAs on September 27, a stage she has used before to announce new projects.
