# Selena Gomez, Benny Blanco and Becky G Put a Situationship Out of Its Misery

> Te Olvido (La La) is the first taste of Blanco's Spanish album Hermoso, and the demand in the chorus is simple enough: decide, or I am gone.

More than a year on from I Said I Love You First, Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco are working together again, this time with Becky G alongside them. Te Olvido (La La), which reads in English as I'm Forgetting You (La La), arrived overnight and belongs to Blanco's forthcoming Spanish language album, Hermoso.

## What the song is doing

A woman asks a man to say what the two of them are, once, and tells him what happens if he will not. The chorus sets the position out plainly: he does not want her with anybody else, and he does not want her with him either, so she wants an answer, because the answer decides whether she loves him or forgets him.

The verses are less patient about it. They go through his lies and the behaviour around them, and in the second verse Gomez warns him off directly, telling him he is playing with fire, that she says nothing while seeing all of it, and that she is perfectly capable of playing dirty herself.

## Who wrote it

Blanco, Becky G and Gomez, between the three of them. It does not read as autobiography, although material of this kind has to come from somewhere. Blanco and Gomez are married.

## Becky G has lived the version in the song

On Call Her Daddy in April, Becky G talked about calling off her engagement to the footballer Sebastian Lletget in 2023, in the middle of rumours about cheating. The two are back together, she said, although rebuilding it took real work.

She would still like to marry him, and told the podcast, via People, that what she wants is a second proposal. On what the whole episode did to her, her line was that growth after something painful is a decision rather than an outcome, and that something shifted in her around refusing to be anybody's victim.

Which is more or less the argument of the record. The woman in it is not waiting to be chosen. She is setting a deadline.
