Lisa Kudrow and Mira Sorvino turned up at D23 in Anaheim on Friday to update people on the sequel to Romy and Michele's High School Reunion, which came out in 1997.

They went on stage with looks from the original film, which is the right instinct, given that the clothes were never incidental to that story. The two characters end the first film running their own boutique.

What the original is about

Two best friends turn up at their high school reunion years after being written off as losers there. The plan is to arrive pretending to be important businesswomen. The lie falls apart, they are humiliated all over again, and things only start to improve once they stop performing. It is a film about friendship, about not pretending, and about the value of a properly choreographed dance routine.

What the new one is about

Not fully disclosed. On stage the pair gestured at a search for true love during what they called a new phase of life, and photographs taken on set in July suggest there is at least one proposal somewhere in it.

Who is in it

Kudrow and Sorvino return, and so do Alan Cumming as Sandy Fink, Camryn Manheim as Toby Walters and Janeane Garofalo as Heather Mooney. The new arrivals are Keegan-Michael Key, Rob Huebel, Breckin Meyer and Wendi McLendon-Covey.
