The Prince and Princess of Wales took George, Charlotte and Louis to the Commonwealth Games in Scotland on Saturday, and the family arrived dressed with the kind of loose coordination that reads as accidental until you look at it twice.
The mother and daughter pairing
Charlotte wore a white sundress printed with black polka dots and crossed with black banding, cut with a collar and short scalloped sleeves. Her mother was also in white, striped in black across the middle, worn under an emerald blazer. Neither look copied the other. They shared a palette and let the detailing go its own way.
The boys went a different route
Prince William anchored the other half of the group in a navy blazer, and both sons picked up his formula of belted trousers and a button down shirt. Louis went blue. George went black and white.
Not Charlotte's first Games
The event is held every four years and draws athletes from across the Commonwealth of Nations. According to The Telegraph, this was the first official engagement at which the three children had been seen publicly in Scotland. Charlotte has been before, though: she joined her parents in Birmingham in 2022, in a black and white striped dress with her hair braided.
In Scotland the couple use the titles Duke and Duchess of Rothesay. Most of the Glasgow visit was spent with athletes competing for Team Wales.
A summer of family outings
The appearance follows photographs Kate shared on July 5 of the family after they finished the National Three Peaks Challenge, a fundraiser for The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity that asks participants to climb the highest peaks in Scotland, England and Wales inside a single day. Their stated reason for taking it on was to draw attention to holistic care for patients.
