Steph Mazuera, who makes engagement rings to order under her own name, points to how much longer it is than most people picture when they hear cushion cut, and notes that elongated stones flatter a hand by creating an illusion of length. Kegan Fisher, co founder of Frank Darling, calls the ratio exceptionally rare at close to two to one, and says elongated cushions are now the third most requested shape among his clients. Angie Kennedy, vice president of product merchandising at Zales, frames it technically: a higher length to width ratio maximises the stone's face up presence, so it reads bigger without needing more carats. ## The faceting suggests an antique Several jewellers think the cut is old rather than modern, which puts Beer in the company of Taylor Swift and Zoe Kravitz, both of whom have pushed antique cuts back into fashion over the past year. Mazuera is careful about it, noting that without a proper close up nobody can be certain, but says the faceting looks antique. Eddie Le Vian of Le Vian goes further and reads it as an old mine cut, the same cut on Swift's ring, arguing that these stones offer presence while keeping a soft outline and tend to feel personal rather than generic. The tell is in the facets. Antique cuts use larger, broader facets that throw bold flashes of light rather than the fine glitter of a modern brilliant, and they often have an open culet, meaning the point at the base of the stone is flattened rather than sharp. ## And the setting does nothing Deliberately. Logan Hollowell, founder of her namesake label, calls it a beautiful example of understated luxury: a classic solitaire that gets out of the way and lets the centre stone carry the ring.
