Kylie Jenner launched her first fragrance, Cosmic, two years ago. The follow up is not a single bottle but three of them. The Mood Stones Fragrance Collection is out now through KylieCosmetics.com, and the organising idea is a scent per mood rather than a scent per season.
Jenner describes the collection as a way of representing her own range and of letting people match a fragrance to whatever they happen to be feeling that day.
What is in the three bottles
Cashmere Muse is the floral and musky one, built on bergamot, mandarin and tonka bean. Blush Wood is softer and more romantic, with apple, honeysuckle and vanilla. Velvet Brew is the loudest of the set, an amber composition running on hazelnut, coffee and patchouli.
Her own use for each is specific. Cashmere Muse is what she reaches for when she feels calm, clean and unhurried. Blush Wood she describes as flirty. Velvet Brew comes out when she wants to feel bold.
The bottles continue what Cosmic started, with smooth sculptural vessels, this time shaped to suggest stones.
Fragrance as memory
Asked why she keeps returning to the category, Jenner puts it down to recall. Scent is tied to memory for her, and a number of her earliest ones are attached to particular bottles. Florals are the most nostalgic, because her mother kept a large collection of them when she was growing up and she can still summon those smells at will. A fragrance can move you back into a specific moment, she says, or shift where you are right now.
The rest of her routine
Her pick from her own line outside fragrance is Cloud Balm, which she uses as both a daily balm and a heavier overnight lip mask. It is light, it sinks in immediately, and it tastes like vanilla cake, which she rates highly.
On astrology she is unequivocal. She is a Leo and considers herself a textbook one. As a child she wanted the attention in any room she was in and was not frightened of much.
The courtside answer
For a game she dresses in her team's colours, deliberately and loudly, and the fragrance she pairs with that is Velvet Brew. It is the boldest thing she makes, which is the point on a night with that much noise in it.
