The British royal family hosted the sultan of Oman this week for a three-day state visit, and Kate Middleton marked the occasion with one of her rare tiara appearances.

## A night for the Lover's Knot

At the banquet closing the visit's first day, the Princess of Wales attended alongside Prince William wearing the Lover's Knot tiara with a flowing yellow gown by Elie Saab. The tiara, commissioned by Queen Mary in 1913, is built from diamond arches hung with 19 pearl drops, and it has become something of a signature choice for Kate at state banquets specifically, even though she rarely wears tiaras otherwise.

## A different look earlier that day

Hours before the banquet, Kate attended the formal welcome ceremony for the sultan in a dark green coat by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen, the same house that designed her wedding gown, finished with a matching hat by Juliette Botterill.

## A contrast with last week's more casual appearance

The formal evening stood in sharp contrast to Kate's public appearance just days earlier, when she announced a new initiative from the Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood in a video filmed outdoors in Cornwall. In it, she spoke about the project's focus on nature's role in early childhood development. 'This project is about exploring how nature, creativity, and relationships can best support the healthy development of babies and young children,' she said in the clip. 'We believe that taking a whole-child approach is important, and nature becomes a wonderful place to explore how we can successfully nurture their social and emotional skills.'
