Karol G was interviewed by Nina Garcia, ELLE's editor in chief, at the Playmakers summit staged by Telemundo and NBCUniversal. The venue was NBC's Studio 8H, better known as the home of Saturday Night Live, and the conversation covered the tour, the festival circuit, and the weight of representing a culture.

## On being the first

Her 2026 Coachella set was the first time a Latina headlined the festival. Karol G is clear that the achievement is real and that the timing is not something to celebrate. Twenty seven years passed without a Latina in that position, she notes, and she raised it directly with the festival's chief executive Paul Tollett after coming off stage.

## A stadium tour in a World Cup summer

Launching a stadium run while the world is watching football strikes her as fitting. Stadiums were built to celebrate a goal, she says, and there is something in seeing the same space filled with people singing, all of them there for one good night.

The production has grown to match the venues. She describes herself, only half joking, as a high performance athlete: a stage built to be a spectacle, movement from one side of the stadium to the other, dancing and running while singing, and a chef who travels with her because the schedule leaves no room for improvisation.

## What she misses

Theatres, mostly. The audience was close and the feeling was different, and she is trying to build a balance into the stadium show between the scale she wants to deliver and moments where she can actually see the people in front of her.

She is candid that the responsibility of carrying her culture is heavy, and that she manages her life differently now because of it. She used to post everything, and she misses that version of it: posting without thinking, drinking with friends, going somewhere new and saying so.

What replaced it is a more careful accounting of which moments she keeps. It is the same trade every artist at this scale describes, and she does not pretend it is costless.
