A beach tote can apparently double as luggage, a case Dua Lipa made recently while working her way through the terminals at JFK with an enormous Chanel raffia shopper on one arm.
The bag
It is raffia, striped in a nautical register, with a prominent interlocking CC on the front. She usually travels with an Hermes Birkin, so this is a departure in more senses than one.
The rest of the outfit was straightforward enough: a Breton stripe pullover, frayed low rise jeans and pointed toe heels.
Where it came from
The tote belongs to Matthieu Blazy's cruise 2027 collection for Chanel, shown in Biarritz in April. That collection put the house signatures through a seaside filter, with retro beachwear, nautical stripes and fish scale embellishment running the length of it.
The maxi bag appeared in several colourways on the runway, among them a sunflower yellow and burgundy stripe carried by Mona Tougaard.
She has been travelling
The mileage this summer has been considerable. She spent the honeymoon working her way down Italy with Callum Turner, her husband, and has been shuttling between New York and Europe ever since.
Given the amount of coastline in that itinerary, the bag has almost certainly done genuine beach service before reaching an airport. Which leaves one practical question hanging over the whole thing: how did something that size get waved through as a personal item?
