Search for model off duty dressing and Bella Hadid turns up on the first screen of results, usually more than once. She is now the face of Alo's pre-fall campaign, which is less of a jump than a formalisation, given the label has been sitting in her everyday wardrobe for years.
The campaign
Mert and Marcus shot it in Los Angeles, styled by Mimi Cuttrell. It skips the high gloss she is best known for in favour of something quieter, closer to the tempo of the city that both she and the brand operate out of.
The products arriving with it are the recognisable ones: the Airbrush Better Together Bra, the Full Stride Micro Short, the Airlift Rebel Bra, the High-Waist Rebel Legging, the Trail Sneaker, the Softsculpt Precision Tank and the Sheer Glow Bra, among others. The balance is the usual one, gym equipment on one side and clothes you would keep on all day on the other.
What she says about it
Hadid frames the partnership around a change in how she measures a good year. Success used to mean working constantly, saying yes to everything and chasing whatever was next. Her definition now is smaller: waking up with enough room to enjoy the day, looking after herself, spending time with the people she loves, and being present where she actually is. The more honestly she lives, she says, the steadier and more confident she feels.
On the brand specifically she talks about making space, whether that means slowing down, moving, or simply stopping long enough to reconnect with herself, and says those small rituals are most of what wellness means to her. She has associated Alo with that for years, which is her argument for the deal reading as genuine rather than arranged.
Where it sits for the brand
Alo has been signing recognisable names at a steady clip, among them Amelia Gray, Lila Moss, Lara Stone and Alton Mason. Hadid is the logical continuation. Few people have done more to define what the modern off duty uniform looks like, and the brand's matching sets are as familiar in an airport queue or on a coffee run as they are in a studio.
It also lands only weeks after Alo moved into eyewear with a first sunglasses collection, which points at the larger ambition. The activewear label would like to be a wardrobe.
